摘要
大學入學考試中心高中英文參考詞彙表研究計畫小組從八十九年九月起至
九十一年六月止，以二年時間編製本《高中英文參考詞彙表》，共包含6,480 個
美國英文詞彙。第一至四級之英文詞彙適合學科能力測驗之程度；第一至六級之
英文詞彙適合指定科目之程度。本詞彙表只收入少數複合詞(compounds)，因為
大多數複合詞均可從其組成詞彙推測出其意義。本詞彙表之編製共參考三十五種
英文詞彙表資料，分為三類：
(一)台灣之國中及高中英文課本共九種；
(二)美國小學英文教科書共五種；
(三) 英、美、加拿大、日本、中國大陸及台灣所編輯之英文詞彙表共二十一種。
本研究小組每年在台北市及高雄市各舉辦一次座談
會，請與會大學及高中英文老師共一百五十九位發表意見，然後根據兩次座談會
之建議，增刪詞彙。同時每年把修訂稿寄至全國二百七十五所主要高中，附上問
卷，徵詢修改意見。本詞彙表有兩個附錄。附錄一為詞彙分級表，共分六級，每
級有1,080 個詞彙；附錄二為詞類分類表。本詞彙表僅供台灣高中英文教學及編
製學科能力測驗與指定科目考試英文試卷參考之用，大學入學考試的英文詞彙範
圍並不一定限於本英文參考詞彙表之內。
ABSTRACT
This research project on compiling an English reference word list for the two
levels of English tests in the college entrance examination of Taiwan, namely the
Scholastic Aptitude English Test (SAET) and the Department Required English Test
(DRET), was sponsored by College Entrance Examination Center, Taiwan, and was
carried out between September 1, 2000 and June 30, 2002. This English reference
word list contains 6,480 words in American English, which were selected by referring
to three kinds of materials: (1) nine sets of junior and senior high school English
textbooks published in Taiwan; (2) five sets of American elementary school English
readers; (3) twenty-one English word lists compiled in the U.S.A., the U.K., Canada,
Japan, Mainland China and Taiwan. The words of levels 1-4 are supposed to be
appropriate for SAET, and the words of levels 1-6, for DRET. These 6,480 words
were selected on the basis of their word frequencies and the English or Chinese
cultural background. This word list includes only a small number of compound words;
most compound words readily understood in terms of their components are not
included. There are two appendices to this word list: Appendix I classifies the 6,480
words into six levels, each level with 1,080 words; Appendix II classifies the words
into eight parts of speech. This English reference word list is merely for reference
and does not set limits to the English vocabulary to appear in the English tests of the
college entrance examination.
