　　其實比起坊間的英文教學，成寒講座深入探討英語文化，不是

只學英文的表面，應該不致於「無聊、沒趣」。當然，我還是先

檢討我自己，要怎麼樣讓孩子覺得更有趣？繼續努力中。



　　然而，我也不得不提醒父母正視一件事實：孩子對英文沒興趣，

最主要的原因是「進步太少，沒有成就感」。要先有進步，才會有

興趣啊！



　　請問：誰會天生喜歡英文？



　　問題是，為什麼補那麼多年，進步卻不多？

　　我想了很久，可能情況跟我當年一樣，語文一開始若沒跟上，

後面急起直追，怎麼樣也追不上，程度比同學落後，而老師又不可

能特別等你。



　　我跟這位媽媽建議，孩子如果已經換了各種方式，又花了那麼

多錢，我想只剩下最後一個方式。家長自己親自帶小孩，以正確的

方法，加上「少量多餐」的方式，不要急，每天聽一點英文，看一點

英文，背一點英文，雖緩慢，但天天有進步。



　　而且，這樣的進步是看得到的。（就算沒興趣，每天強迫做一點，

比較沒那麼困難）



　　不過，我知道有錢的家長大部分是不會這樣做的，因為大家

都想花錢了事。至於經濟狀況比較沒那麼好的家長，大部分也

懶得陪孩子學英文──因為學英文是一條漫長的路，大部分人走

一小段就想休息......然後太陽就下山了。

興趣是培養出來的

        偶爾遇到家長對我說：「我的小孩就是對英文沒興趣。」

　　他們甚至還說：「孩子因為沒興趣，所以不想念。」



　　我覺得大家對「興趣」這兩個字太「高估」（overrated）了。

　　輕易就有興趣的，那是天生的天才型；一般人，想要

        獲得深刻的興趣，是要投入，經過努力得來的。



　　你覺得我天生對英文有興趣嗎？

　　當年，我再努力也念不好，怎麼可能有興趣呢？我所以

        不願意放棄自己，是因為我了解到：如果我的英文不好，

         這輩子我就完了......　套用底下的題目：

懶得跟述

想要學好英文，聽說讀寫，缺一不可。

你只要少做一步，效果就大打折扣。

 最近我在講座上問讀者，為什麼你進步這麼慢？

答案往往讓我驚訝。

最常出現的答案是：「懶得跟述。」他們只聽聽而已。

學英文，不要鑽牛角尖

唯有自己動腦筋思考過，英文才會深刻內化，

你才能真正進步。


　　有些句子是習慣用語，老美或老英，早就講習慣

了。只要你差不多知道意思，也可以不用查，只要你

會學人家說和寫，何必去探究人家為什麼要這樣說？

英文，是天底下最容易學的科目，不像數學、物理、

化學那樣要做深入的研究。


　　學英文，不要鑽牛角尖。


　　請大家不要動不要就要我幫你查字典。


　　舊討論區時代，有些人幾乎每個字每個句子都

問我，我也辛苦解釋了，結果很多年過去，他們還

是停留在教材第一集階段，原因為何？因為不習慣

自己動腦筋。光給他答案，他還是無法內化變成自

己的。


　　就算一時查不到，那也是因為你的理解力不夠。

等過陣子回頭複習，就會豁然開朗，不用擔心。


　　我只能給你釣魚竿，沒辦法給你魚。

成功沒有捷徑

成功沒有捷徑， 只要找對了方法。 全力以赴， 自然而然自有水到渠成的一天。

如同李嘉誠所說： 你想過普通的生活，就會遇到普通的挫折。 你想過上最好的生活，就一定會遇上最強的傷害。 這世界很公平，你想要最好，就一定會給你最痛。

什麼叫做「毅力」

有人說：成功的人都是有毅力的。

　　然而，你知道什麼叫做「毅力」？


　　當年我的朋友在哈佛法學院念 LLM, 累到每天數著

維他命過日子（請參閱《躺著學英文２》p.41）。有一天，

我們談到哈佛人，他突然跟我說：

　　「哈佛人不會沒有毅力的！」


　　但我依然覺得「毅力」這兩個字有點空泛。

　　到底什麼是「毅力」？直到上周六（10/22）第32梯次

〈啟發式英語教學〉，現場有位媽媽的一時感言，讓我終於

領悟到「毅力」的終極意義。


　　她說自從兩年三個月前開始念教材，一天都不曾間斷。

她本身是高職畢業，英文本來就不太好，又有孩子上國中，

加上自己也在上班，平常沒有太多時間。但是，從不間斷

的結果，她現在已經念到教材第三集的最後部分。


　　她的感想是：「自從念了成寒教材，做其他事也變得

比較有毅力。」


　　驀然間，我恍然大悟。

　　有人以為「毅力」就是努力一直在做同一件事。不對

不對！

　　實際上，一直做同一件事，如有些人補了一輩子的英文，

這根本不叫有毅力（也許叫：耗青春）。「毅力」應該就是

「有始有終」。


　　反過來說：一直做不同的事，也不叫有「毅力」。

　　很多人，一輩子一事無成，他們不是不努力，而是東做

西做，做到很累，卻完全沒有成果。因為「瞎忙」，沒有

一件事，有始有終。一如念教材，沒有把它做到克漏字第二

或第三回合，只是漫天亂聽，只做了第一回克漏字，沒挑

生字背，那也跟「瞎忙」一樣。記住：多頭馬車跑不快！


　　一件事，只要認真評估過，覺得可行，就不要再東想

西想，只能一直往前進，直到終點才停止。

　　任何大小事，想要成功，除了開頭，也要結尾。

　　當你有毅力的完成一件事，下一件事就不難，因為，

「毅力」也是一種養成的習慣。

我的心得是：不看螢幕，反而聽得更清楚。

　　若看螢幕，有時反而會被某個動作或字幕分散注意力呢！

成寒的教材製作原因

成寒在2001出版了《躺著學英文－聽力從零到滿分》
（目前已絕版，內容與《英文，非學好不可》類似）。


那時開始設網站，義務為所有的讀者解答學習問題。
解答了整整四年之後，
我終於發現光是我個人熱心回答讀者的問題還是幫不了讀者，
所以才決定製作教材，省去讀者四處覓教材，又不知程度編排的麻煩。

教材並非十全十美，但是有系統，由淺入深，涵蓋各類
主題，由第一集標準口音，逐漸加深變複雜，到第三集
挑戰性極高。


最初，教材只針對大人，後來才發現，有些爸媽因為
自己有在念，竟然也把孩子的英文帶得很好。我才知道
原來我的教材也適合小孩。

但並不是每個父母都會帶孩子學英文，我因此又出版了
《早早開始，慢慢來》，加上啟發式課程，以及重新
改版的新教材，剛好適合父母帶孩子自修。


1.   小小孩學英文，成寒教材安排教材 「第一集」 +
　「啟發式」，而且是設計親子共讀。

2. 「啟發式」有數萬張「有發音的投影片」，
　　幫助小孩奠立發音基礎，並有數千段精采影片輔助，
　　教小孩非常容易。與教材同時使用，可教好幾年。

3.     沒有啟發式，是很難教小孩的，啟發式必須與教材
　　相輔相成。

4.     第一集 + 第二集的音質清晰標準，完全適合小小孩。

5.     小小孩不可能現在就念到複雜的第三集，
　　可是等他們練習了好幾年以後，
　　複雜的第三集就可以念了，到那時候他們已經比較大了。


6.     第一集除了《推理女神探》《靈媒的故事》，因故事
　　懸疑，暫時不適合小小孩。

7.     教材出版僅六年（2006年暑假），且花了兩年又八個月
　　才製作完畢。

8.     有些教材是我親自監督錄製的，老外也是在台僱的，
　　其中一個現在是 ICRT 的 DJ, 芝加哥人，標準中西部
　　口音（也就是所謂的電視主播口音），他的名字叫
 　　Michael, 但我現在已經僱不起他。
　　他說 ICRT 給他每小時七千元，我以前僱他只要三千元。

　　另外幾個是聲音很棒的年輕老外，語言訓練測驗中心
　　的老師，記得其中一個女生是 U. of Arizona 畢業的。

9.     第一集 + 第二集，大部分都是近年製作的ＣＤ，
　　有些原作者仍屬壯年。有些是奧斯卡獎得主。

10.  沒有第一集 + 第二集的功力，是不可能升到第三集的。

11.   簡單的說，成寒教材第三集就跟電影一樣。
　　你能夠幾乎完全聽得懂電影，你就能聽得懂第三集；
　　反過來說，聽得懂成寒教材第三集，你就能夠聽得懂
　　電影。 也就是現實世界的英語。

　　我當年能夠托福聽力考滿分，就是念類似第三集這樣的
　　教材練習，讓我在美國生活愉快。

　　讀者裡頭很多人都考到多益九百多分，也就是這樣嚴格
　　訓練出來的。


12.   能夠念完第三集的讀者，英文一定過門檻，永遠可以
　　不必再學。
　　過去幾年我帶讀者出國，已念完全套的讀者都可以
　　聽懂任何人講的英語，你只要念完全套也可以做到。
　

13.   顯然許多人都是聽「教室英語」長大的，
　　等您們有一天到國外長住，或在國外參加 local tour,
　　或陪先生或太太外派、出差，或自己到國外洽談業務，
　　您就會明白什麼是「正常英語」－－可惜，千金難買
　　早知道。
　　或許你們可以問問長住國外的台灣友人。

　　倘若您及您的孩子沒有經過這樣的訓練，就難以成為
　　穿梭世界的國際人。
　　這就是為什麼許多留學回來的人還買教材念的原因。

　
14.   學好英文才是真的，其他都是不必要的。
　　你們的小孩才是最重要的。
